One Skein Wonders

There are oodles of fabulous patterns that require just one 100g skein of yarn.

Here are some of my favourites.

Socks

Morning Coffee Socks by Crazy Sock Lady Designs

A simple but classic design, with an easily memorised stitch pattern that knits up beautifully using just one 100g skein of sock weight yarn. You can use any sock weight fibre but I highly recommend that you use a blend that contains nylon to give your socks some strength, particularly around the heels and toes.

Hats

Sockhead Slouch Hat by Kelly McClure

This gorgeous hat pattern can be knit in a whole range of sizes, from baby to extra large and everything in-between. The simple construction, and use of just knit and purl stitches makes the project suitable for beginners and experienced knitters alike. Unlike the sock pattern above, we recommend that you use a super squishy, gorgeously soft skein of fingering weight yarn, without any nylon content, so the hat is soft against your skin and slouches perfectly.

Shawls

The Storm Shawl by Joji Locatelli

This stunning shawl is knit using one 100g skein of fingering weight yarn and measures approx 160cm (point to point) x 39cm (top to bottom) once blocked. This pattern features dropped stitches to create a lovely, open texture, and short rows to create shape. You can use any sock weight yarn for this project and would look equally stunning in a semi-solid or multi-tonal colour way.

Baby Clothing

Newborn Onesie by Shja

How cute is this little onesie? This is a gorgeous little project for that super special skein of lovely soft yarn. The pattern description suggests using a silk/alpaca blend for a summer baby, or a warmer merino blend for a winter blend. We suggest avoiding blends with nylon or Stella, and opt for softer 100% wool blends.

Fashion

The Ripple Bralette by Jessie Maed Designs

This super fashionable, and downright gorgeous bralette pattern is available in a whole, and fully inclusive spectrumof sizes ranging from a 28” to a 62” bust. Admittedly, larger sizes will require a second skein of yarn, but I felt it just needed to be included in this post. This top would look fantastic with shorts or dungarees in the warmer months, but would look equally perfect under a shirt or hooded zip top in the colder months. You could use a single colour, semi solid yarn or let your creative side go wild with a multi-tonal speckled yarn. The sky is the limit.
